A beautiful haiku for such a sad chapter of Dutch and Australian history Peter. The Batavia Museum in Fremantle Western Australia is one of the most engaging museums I have visited. The reclamation of parts of the ship and so many artefacts has been woven into a fascinating recreation of the story around the shipwreck and the rescue of survivors.

Love the shore “sighing.” My mother loved paintings of sailing ships, because of her I know the story of the Batavia.
