I’ve got the January blues,
the past year finally cut loose.
My resolutions fade away,
they’re getting weaker day by day.
There’s nothing left for me to lose,
I’ve got the January blues.
December’s cheer is gone for good,
that’s why I’m sulking in this mood.
I hope that spring will soon be here
to brighten up the time of year.
I’ve got the January blues
which isn’t something I can use.
I’m in a melancholic state,
which makes me want to contemplate.
So let me be, and spread the news:
I’ve got the January blues.

It strikes a chord indeed. Though I don’t regret December’s passing. Great quatern, Peter 🙂

Peter, the prompt is for a haibun, a short piece of prose with a haiku. I will have to unlink your delightful January Blues poem, but you might like to link it up again on Thursday for OLN. I would love it if you wrote and linked up a haibun for this week’s prompt.

The rhythm of the poem speaks the melancholic tone and the way the bell tolls on the repeated use of the line on “January blues.” Its beautiful and relatable. ❤

I don’t participate in the December celebrations so for me January is just a next month. One way of keeping the blues at bay! Smiles. I loved the form.

Peter, your poem succinctly captures the post-holiday melancholy. The fading resolutions, longing for spring, and contemplative tone resonate well. A relatable and well-expressed snapshot of the January mood! 🌨️📜
